October Kicking Camp - Wednesday 27th @Taunton

Places are now available for our October Kicking Camp @Taunton rugby club.

Dave Alred MBE PHD has coached England in over 100 tests and is a 2003 world cup winner, he has coached on 3 Lions tours and has worked with Jonny Wilkinson his whole rugby career along with many top international kickers from all over the world. Stu Alred and Tony Yapp will join Dave in offering you a unique kicking session enabling players to learn and develop a technique which has stood the test of time and held up under the extreme pressure of international rugby.

Three coaches with smaller groups will improve learning and understanding.

Very few matches are won in the modern game without a good kicking game and an accurate goal kicker. It is a skill that is not easily coached or properly understood and as a consequence too often kickers are ill advised on their routine and technique often this can lead to injury and frustration.

With the season just started this is a great opportunity for players to review their technique and improve their understanding of some basic principles.

The camp will take place at Taunton RFC on Wednesday 27th October 2010

The session will start with an introduction and video presentation followed by the coaching session. To ensure that the key points are not lost the players will all receive coaching tips and practice drills on a laminated sheet to help them further develop when they are back in their school/club environment.

The numbers of places are limited to enable the players to receive better attention and support, so to avoid disappointment your players need to book now with full payment to secure there spot. A booking form is available through will soon be online at Taunton RFC. Click here for booking form.

Dave Looks forward to Ryder Cup

"Perhaps the strangest sporting link-up next week in Wales will see an American-based European Ryder Cup star getting advice from the man who helped prodigious rugby union points scorers Neil Jenkins and Jonny Wilkinson get their kicks.

Because Luke Donald, close to a possible £7.2m jackpot – the richest prize in golf – this weekend in the final leg of the FedEx Cup play-off has joined an unlikely coaching tie-up with former England and British Lions kicking guru Dave Alred.

Using some of Alred’s expert guidance, Jenkins became the world’s finest goal-kicker. And Alred ensured that with England and the Lions, Wilkinson was unable to end a kicking session without a perfect six out of six from the “should get” zone.

Bristol-based Alred will use the stick and carrot approach with Donald’s putter as he seeks to give the world No 9 that little bit extra in helping him to become “boss of the moss” at the Celtic Manor.

Unless 15 from 20 putts are holed from four to eight foot it’s back to square one and it’s led to Alred labelling his pupil “The Assassin”.

Even when they’re on opposite sides of the Atlantic, Alred makes Donald keep his practice stats to email them to him – how many attempts before 15 from 20 putts went in, how many bunker shots to three feet plus a birdie and bogey count.

“The bottom line is whether it’s a winning putt for a Ryder Cup or a winning drop goal for a World Cup, it comes down to the one individual,” said Alred."
